Tai Chi: this ancient form of movement originated in China many centuries ago and consists of a series of inter-connected slow, sequential movements which utilize and coordinate the mind, body and spirit. Movements are circular in nature and are based on the concept of yin-yang (a symbol of harmony and balance). Taught in standing. QiGong also included.
Beginners/Intermediate Pilates Mat Class: This class focuses on the fundamentals of Pilates through breathing, core control, and balance to strengthen and tone the body.

Whether your goal is to increase flexibility, strengthen and tone your muscles or just challenge your mind and body, you will find this to be one of the best and most fun workouts you will ever have. Benefits:

Yoga : The Asanas or poses systematically stretch and massage all parts of the body, increase flexibility of musculature, increase joint lubrication, improve balance and stimulates the lymphatic system. Meditation and Guided Imagery calm the body and mind, improve the ability to concentrate, increases ones awareness of their surroundings, and quiets the mind (allowing clients to experience inner sources of peace, joy, and nourishment resulting in a deep state of relaxation). Pranayama or Deep Breathing assists in lowering the heart rate and provides for rest and regeneration for the entire circulatory system.
Tai Chi : Recommended by the Arthritis and Lupus Foundations to aid in pain management and increased range of motion. Studies show improved balance and reduction of falls and related injuries by as much as 48%; aids in lowering blood pressure, increase lung capacity and oxygenation through relaxed, deeper breathing. It can be utilized by anyone at any age.
Pilates: Increases muscle strength, joint mobility, flexibility, and muscle balance; develops long lean muscles; improves posture and alignment (which will relieve posture related disorders as well as improve general mobility so that one moves more fluidly and gracefully); stimulates circulation and blood oxygenation as well as boosts immune system function; improves mental clarity. |
